1. Just look at the trend of google searches and you will see whats happening on the web. Here is a chart of the last few years from google trends (a cool tool that google provides).

2. As you can tell by clicking around my blog that each post I write is dated and archived in reverse order. A reader will know when the info was published and all of your work is archived by title. The better the title the more likely someone will read your post. A website is more fixed and rarely updated.

3. You can add more of a personal touch to a blog. A website is more like an online business card.

4. Just picture one year of blogging and all the posts you will have archived compared to one year of an old unchanged website. You can even link one post to another or organize them by category.

5. Search engines love blogs. Search engines will find you if you blog a lot and you will get more customers from the internet than a website.
